About the event
Often called “the most romantic street in America,” Church Street in Charleston is a living timeline of the city’s rich history and architectural evolution. Lined with beautifully preserved colonial and Georgian homes, the street offers a glimpse into Charleston's early days as one of the wealthiest cities in colonial America. These stately residences, with their symmetrical facades, gabled roofs, and intricate woodwork, speak to the craftsmanship and elegance of 18th-century design. Interspersed among the homes are lush private gardens, showcasing Charleston’s horticultural heritage and adding to the street’s enchanting atmosphere.
Historic churches, such as St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, with its towering steeple and classic Palladian design, serve as architectural and spiritual landmarks that anchor the street in its historic significance. Church Street also bears witness to the layers of history that shaped Charleston, from its role in the American Revolution and Civil War to its revival during the preservation movement…
